Our Story

How it all started...

Calvary Baptist Church was planted in 1955 by a small group of believers meeting in a living room with a big view of God. From its earliest days, Calvary wasn’t built on personalities or programs, but on the conviction that Jesus is Lord and His church is worth everything.

That conviction led to land being donated, a basement sanctuary being built by hand, and the first services filled with prayer, preaching, and deep fellowship. Within five years, the church had adopted its first constitution, baptized new believers, and officially dedicated its first building.

Expanding the vision...

Through the decades, Calvary has been led by faithful pastors and servant-hearted members who labored together to build a gospel-centered church in Marysville. From the addition of classrooms and parsonages to the launch of children’s ministries and outreach events, the church grew—not just in size, but in spiritual depth. In the 1990s, a major building project expanded the church’s footprint, culminating in a new sanctuary dedicated in 1999. A renewed focus on missions and ministry development marked the early 2000s, and in 2005, Calvary celebrated 50 years of God’s faithfulness.

But buildings and programs were never the point. Calvary has always been about people—people saved by grace, gathered into a family, and sent out for God’s glory.

Where we are headed...

In 2020, a new chapter began with the calling of our current pastor. Building on the faithful foundation of the past, we have been renewed with a clear vision: to be a gospel-saturated, Spirit-dependent, mission-driven church that delights in Christ and makes disciples who do the same.

That vision shapes how we live and love today. We don’t exist to entertain consumers—we exist to form worshipers. We’re not driven by tradition or trends, but by Scripture. We gather each week to be reminded that Jesus is King, and we scatter into the world to live as His sent people. Our Membership Covenant reflects that calling. We believe the church is not a club to attend, but a people to belong to—brothers and sisters on mission together, called to love one another and serve our city in Jesus’ name.

From a basement gathering in 1955 to a multi-generational family today, God has remained faithful. And because Jesus is still building His church, we believe the best days are not behind us—they’re ahead.
